January 18, 2025: Honolulu Blue Day

WHEREAS, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, the Detroit Lions will kick off their first game in the 2025 NFL Playoffs, facing off against the Washington Commanders; and,

WHEREAS, over the 2024-25 NFL season, the Detroit Lions overcame every obstacle to achieve an outstanding 15-2 record, clinching the #1 seed as NFC North Champions, and scoring an impressive 493 points—setting a new franchise record for the most points in a season; and,

WHEREAS, Michiganders from every corner of our state—from the roar of Ford Field to living rooms across Michigan—take immense pride in the Detroit Lions' dedication, perseverance, and unbreakable Michigan GRIT; and,

WHEREAS, GRIT lies at the heart of the Michigan spirit and drives the foundation of the Detroit Lions, fueling us to dig deeper, push harder, rise above any challenge, and outplay any opponent, no matter their size or strength; and,

WHEREAS, today, the people of Michigan are called to huddle together, proudly unite in Honolulu Blue, and show the world that our roar is louder than ever as the Lions embark on their postseason march to the Super Bowl; and,

WHEREAS, on this day, I encourage every Michigander to proudly wear Honolulu Blue to support our mighty Lions, making sure the world knows we were built for this moment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, and I, Garlin Gilchrist II, lieutenant governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Saturday, January 18, 2025, as Honolulu Blue Day in Michigan and encourage Michiganders to sport the Honolulu Blue in support of our mighty Lions.
