Biometrics and Identification Division

The Biometrics and Identification Division (BID) was formed in 2011 for its strong emphasis on the sciences and technologies critical to public safety. Michigan was the first state agency to establish a dedicated biometrics division. In the last decade, the division has progressed to include the specialty areas of polygraph, forensic audio/video analysis, ten-print and palmprint identification, facial identification, forensic art, and DNA.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division

The motor carrier officers of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) conduct road patrol activities focused on commercial vehicle enforcement. Additional responsibilities include conducting federal compliance reviews and investigations, school bus inspections, and conducting safety audits. CVED's Regulatory and Credentialing Section is responsible for insurance and safety regulations of intrastate for-hire motor carriers, as well as regulating rate and consumer protection of intrastate motor carriers of household goods.

Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division

The Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (EMHSD) is responsible for assisting local jurisdictions with response and recovery efforts for natural and man-made disasters and serves as the state’s liaison with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The EMHSD also maintains Michigan’s Emergency Management Plan.

Forensic Science Division

The Forensic Science Division (FSD) comprises seven forensic laboratories located throughout the state, employing state-of-the-art technology to assist police agencies with evidence analysis in the areas of biology/DNA, firearms and tool marks, trace evidence/questioned documents, toxicology, bloodstain pattern analysis, latent prints, and controlled substances, as well as crime scene response and processing.

Information Technology Division

Intelligence Operations Division

The Intelligence Operations Division (IOD) includes the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center for Homeland Security (MIOC), Michigan’s fusion center; the Operations Section, which coordinates and deploys MSP’s resources statewide 24 hours a day, seven days a week; the Cyber Section, consisting of  Michigan Cyber Command Center, Computer Crimes Unit, and Michigan Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force; and MSP’s four Regional Communications Centers (RCC), which are located in Lansing, Detroit, Gaylord, and Negaunee.

Special Operations Division
