Michigan History Museum System

Enjoy the 12 museums and historic sites in the Michigan History Museum System—your pathway to fun and discovery. The Michigan History Museum in Lansing presents an overview of the state's history. Other historic sites and museums throughout the state focus on themes in Michigan history.

Apply for the America250MI History Grant Program

In 2026, the United States will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 

America250MI is Michigan's official committee for the commemoration of the history of our state and its relation to the development of the United States of America. As a part of the statewide commemoration, America250MI has launched a grant program for projects that preserve, protect and tell Michigan stories. Projects may focus on any historical subject that has helped shape the Michigan of today. The first round of applications opens March 1 and will close April 15.

Eligible applicants include tribal governments, 501(c)(3) nonprofit history organizations and local units of government. All applications must include at least one organization devoted to history.

Archives of Michigan

The Archives of Michigan is responsible for preserving the records of Michigan government and other public institutions. The collections also include documents, maps, photographs and film from private individuals and organizations.


Become a lighthouse keeper!

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a lighthouse keeper? Now is your chance! Apply to the Lighthouse Keeper Program at Tawas Point Lighthouse.

The application for the 2025 season is now open. Lighthouse keepers help greet visitors, lead tours, provide information and perform basic facility maintenance. Interested parties must apply in teams of four, be 18 years or older and able to climb 85 steps. The fee is $250 per person for the two week stay.
