Michigan Civil Rights Commission to Hold Quarterly Meeting in Flint on Monday, April 28

Lansing, MI—The Michigan Civil Rights Commission will hold their regular quarterly meeting in Flint at 10 am on Monday, April 28, 2025. The meeting will take place in the Dort/Durant Ballroom, Hilton Garden Inn, 110 West Kearsley Street in Flint, Michigan.
At this meeting, the Commission will consider a resolution in support of removal of Article 1, §25 from the State of Michigan Constitution, which states that “…the union of one man and one woman in marriage shall be the only agreement recognized as a marriage or similar union for any purpose.”
They will also consider a resolution regarding legal rights of transgender students in schools and public accommodations, and use of pronouns.
Commissioners will hear from Atty. Lamont Satchel and Atty. Marcelina Treviño on presidential executive orders and their potential impact on the work of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. See the proposed meeting agenda below.
The meeting is open to the public and will include a public comment period. To deliver remarks during public comment, individuals must attend in person at the Flint location. ASL and CART services will be provided. The meeting will be livestreamed to the MDCR Facebook page at facebook.com/MDCR.
The Michigan Civil Rights Commission was created by the Michigan Constitution to safeguard constitutional and legal guarantees against discrimination. The Commission is charged with investigating alleged discrimination against any person because of religion, race, color or national origin, genetic information, sex, age, marital status, height, weight, arrest record, and physical and mental disability. The Michigan Department of Civil Rights serves as the operational arm of the Commission.
