In 2026, the United States will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
America250MI is Michigan's official committee for the commemoration of the history of our state and its relation to the development of the United States of America. As a part of the statewide commemoration, America250MI has launched a grant program for projects that preserve, protect and tell Michigan stories. Projects may focus on any historical subject that has helped shape the Michigan of today. The first round of applications opens March 1 and will close April 15.
Eligible applicants include tribal governments, 501(c)(3) nonprofit history organizations and local units of government. All applications must include at least one organization devoted to history.
The Archives of Michigan is responsible for preserving the records of Michigan government and other public institutions. The collections also include documents, maps, photographs and film from private individuals and organizations.
This summer, the Michigan History Center is hiring 14 seasonal interpreters at our historic sites and museums across the state. These positions are opportunities to expand skills, gain experience and work independently in a variety of public history contexts in some of Michigan’s most beautiful places.
These positions are perfect for someone with a background in history, museum studies, interpretation, education and outdoor recreation. The job description will change depending on the site, please read each carefully.
Hourly pay begins at $15.50 for new hires. Returning staff will be paid based on their time of service.
