October 25-31, 2021: Rivalry Week

WHEREAS, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University football teams have met 113 times; and, 

 

WHEREAS, while Michigan leads the head-to-head series overall 71-37-5, Michigan State has won nine of the last 13 match-ups; and,

 

WHEREAS, on the banks of the Red Cedar, at noon Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, October 30th, 2021 the two teams will kick off for the 114th time; and,

 

WHEREAS, both teams are undefeated so far this season, and only one team can walk away with their winning streak intact; and,

 

WHEREAS, while the Leaders and the Best are favored to win by some experts, Spartan teams are never beaten, and all through the game they'll fight; and,

 

WHEREAS, as the college football world and Jim Harbaugh's khakis descend upon Spartan Stadium, we know The Woodshed will be alive on gameday; and,

 

WHEREAS, during this week, we encourage all Michiganders to embrace this historic rivalry and the high stakes this game surely represents for every family, but especially the houses divided; and,

 

WHEREAS, we remind all punters to avoid trouble with the snap; and,

 

WHEREAS, the residents of East Lansing are looking to host the Paul Bunyan trophy for another year, while those in Ann Arbor hope he will return once more; and,

 

WHEREAS, October 30th will surely be a beautiful day for football; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 25-31, 2021 as Rivalry Week in Michigan.
