Wexford Area of Interest Self-Sampling Investigation (Haring, Clam Lake, Selma, and Boon Townships and City of Cadillac, Wexford County)

In late 2024 and into early 2025, the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) conducted residential well sampling in the Cadillac area. Many residents outside the defined boundaries of investigation areas (Wexford Tech Center Area of Interest, Cadillac Industrial Park Area of Interest, and US 131 and Mackinac Trail Areas of Interest) have sampled their own drinking water wells. Results from residential well self-samples were shared with MPART and agency staff. While many of the self-samples were non-detect or had low level detections, numerous results were above Michigan’s drinking water criteria for PFAS.

MPART, EGLE, DHHS, and the local health department met in early spring 2025 to determine a sampling plan to ensure public health is protected. MPART is evaluating homes with exceedances that self-sampled, and will offer to sample homes immediately adjacent.
