Background
253 Dino Drive was discovered based on sampling data submitted to EGLE in a baseline environmental assessment (BEA). The building was built in 1987 and was occupied by MTI, a subsidiary of Gelman Sciences for textile filter production, medical equipment manufacturing, and breathable waterproof fabric production until approximately 1993. Historical interior waste streams associated with the waterproofing operations may have included PFAS. Soil samples were collected, groundwater from a temporary monitoring well, and the on-site potable well on the south side of the building were sampled for PFAS as part of the BEA. Groundwater sample results exceeded criteria at the temporary monitoring well (TMW-1), screened from the 10–15-foot interval, for PFOA at 760 ppt (compared to 8 ppt) and PFNA at 45 ppt (compared to 6 ppt). The potable well (PW-1) analytical did indicate PFAS detections above laboratory reporting limits, but there were no drinking water exceedances. Groundwater flow direction is unknown but is assumed to be south-southeast based on topography and bounding wetlands to the south within the west Scio preserve.

Drinking water information
EGLE, DHHS, and local health reviewed residential well logs and developed a sampling plan. In November 2024, 26 letters were mailed to nearby well owners requesting access to sample their well. Samples were collected from 12 locations that granted access in December 2024. Eleven samples were non-detect for PFAS and one well had detections below criteria, with a result of PFHxA at 2 ppt (compared to 400,000 ppt). The site is surrounded by commercial/industrial buildings with potable wells.
