The commission's charge is to ensure equal representation, amplify voices and foster a state where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, feels affirmed and valued.
The 15-member council will advise the department on issues relating to the Arab and Chaldean communities in Michigan and promote awareness of their culture and history

Refugee families with children in Michigan are eligible to apply for cash (Family Independence Program), available to residents with low income. The Refugee Assistance Program is a federally funded program which helps persons admitted into the U.S. as refugees to become self-sufficient after their arrival. Refugees who are single or married without children are eligible for temporary assistance. Temporary refugee cash assistance and refugee medical assistance is available to eligible refugees who do not qualify for cash assistance (through the FIP program), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Medicaid.
Eligibility for refugee cash and medical assistance is available for up to eight months after entry into the U.S., or from the date asylum was granted, if you have one of the following immigration statuses:
Immigration status is determined by officials from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
