Basic and Advanced SCAN
SCAN (Scientific Content Analysis)
SCAN is an effective technique for obtaining information and detecting deception by analyzing the words people say. The SCAN technique is being used regularly in many police departments, federal agencies, the military, and private companies.

Basic SCAN
Basic SCAN will show you:
- Whether the subject is truthful or deceptive
- What information the subject is concealing
- Whether or not the subject was involved in the crime
This course is MCOLES registered.
Advanced SCAN
ADVANCED SCAN will enable the student to utilize his/her knowledge of the SCAN technique in a more efficient and effective way. The workshop provides the student with intensive in-class practice for identifying the following:
- The important points in the statement
- Organizing the points and expressing them in a report
- Developing the statement
- Formulating conclusions
The workshop will take the student through the SCAN process, step by step, with emphasis on various categories, such as theft, homicide, assault, arson, etc.
*PREREQUISITE: The advanced workshop is open only to students who have attended the Basic SCAN. (MSP detectives who have taken Basic SCAN in previous years will be given priority for seats in Advanced SCAN.)
