Benton Harbor Faucet and Filter Safety Net Program

If you live in the City of Benton Harbor home where a Medicaid-enrolled child under 19 years of age or a Medicaid-enrolled pregnant person resides, complete the Lead Services Application for lead services, including:

  1. A home visit with lead education and visual plumbing assessment.
  2. Lead-reducing filter and replacement cartridges.
    Eligible residents have several options to get a free water filter or replacement cartridges when your filter cartridge needs to be changed:
    • Request a filter or replacement cartridges by phone by calling the Berrien County Health Department (BCHD) at 800-815-5485 or visiting the health department at 2149 E. Napier Ave. Benton Harbor, MI. 49022, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Request over the phone or in-home assistance
      • All City of Benton Harbor residents can request over-the-phone assistance with filter installation by calling the MDHHS Drinking Water Hotline at 844-934-1315. 
      • In-home assistance with filter installation is available for households with a child under 19 years of age, or a pregnant person, enrolled in Medicaid residing in the home.
  3. Replacement of a faucet that was made before 2014.
  4. Assistance to sign up for the MDHHS Lead Safe Home Program which provides lead abatement services to Medicaid enrolled children and pregnant persons, including:
    • A free home lead inspection to find if lead is in your home.
    • Lead abatement services to fix the lead that has been found.
