Granholm Appoints Shalina Kumar Judge of 6th Circuit Court

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Shalina D. Kumar as judge of the 6th Circuit Court, which serves Oakland County, for a term expiring January 1, 2009. She replaces Judge Gene Schnelz who has retired.
Kumar, of Birmingham, was most recently an attorney with the Weiner & Cox law firm and was previously an attorney with Sommers, Schwartz, Silver & Schwartz, both firms in Southfield. She is on the executive board of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the Women's Bar Association, and served on the Sylvan Lake City Council during law school.
Kumar earned her law degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
