  • 15% SOM enrollment incentive discount for MSP members, spouses, and dependents under 24.

Cleary University

  • 60 credits at completion of Trooper Recruit School: no cost.
  • 36 credits at completion of Motor Carrier Officer Recruit School: no cost.
  • Up to 30 credits offered for job experience, previous degree(s), or certificates with fees based on yearly total.
  • Accelerated pathways to degrees includes family members. 
  • Bachelor's degrees discounted to $10,000/year (non-MSP cost is $22,275/year).
  • Master's degrees discounted to $12,500/year (non-MSP cost is $33,000/year).
  • Classes are offered in-person at the Detroit campus or online.

  • MSP family members receive 25% discount (immediate family).

  • 24 credits offered toward a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice for completion of Trooper Recruit School; must also complete Field Training Officer Program.
  • Online classes.

  • MSP members receive 20% discount per credit hour for any online degree program.

  • MSP members receive discount of $250 toward an associate’s or bachelor’s degree; $500 toward a master’s degree.
  • MSP family members receive 10% discount (immediate family members).

  • A minimum of 51 credits toward course requirements for a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Criminal Justice offered for completion of Trooper Recruit School.

  • MSP members and family members, including spouses, retirees, and retiree spouses eligible for corporate scholarship providing a 20% reduction in tuition for certain undergraduate and graduate degrees.

  • 41 credits offered toward a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice for completion of Trooper Recruit School: no cost.
  • 15 credits offered for trooper’s field training: no cost.
  • Additional credit hours for work experience, and training assessed on an individual basis for troopers and civilian employees: no cost.
  • Public safety discount included ($410/credit hour).

Tuition Reimbursement

To assist department members who want to pursue higher education, the MSP has established a supplemental tuition reimbursement fund. All full-time MSP members are eligible to request reimbursement of up to $2,500 in tuition reimbursement per fiscal year.

Annual Training Funds

In FY2024, all full-time civilian and enforcement members are also allocated $2,000 to be used for training and educational opportunities to further develop professional skills and education related to current or future job functions within the department.
