Dearborn Physical Therapist has License Summarily Suspended

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has immediately suspended the license to practice as a physical therapist of Abdul Khaliq Zafar, P.T., based on his conviction in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Zafar, 54, failed to report his conviction to MDCH as required by the Public Health Code.
On March 4, 2009, Zafar was convicted of one felony count of health care fraud. As a result, Zafar was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 37 months, followed by three years of supervised release with terms, and ordered to pay $615,343.00 in restitution.
On Oct. 22, 2009, MDCH issued an order summarily suspending Zafar's license pursuant to the Public Health Code, which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
