Become a lighthouse keeper!

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a lighthouse keeper? Now is your chance! Apply to the Lighthouse Keeper Program at Tawas Point Lighthouse.

The application for the 2026 season is now open. Lighthouse keepers help greet visitors, lead tours, provide information and perform basic facility maintenance. Interested parties must apply in teams of four, be 18 years or older and able to climb 85 steps. The fee is $250 per person for the two week stay.

Commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States

In 2026, the United States of America will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 

Governor Whitmer appointed the Michigan History Center and the Historical Society of Michigan to lead the state's commemorative efforts. America250MI is Michigan's official committee for the commemoration of the history of our state and its relation to the development of the United States of America.

Archives of Michigan

The Archives of Michigan is responsible for preserving the records of Michigan government and other public institutions. The collections also include documents, maps, photographs and film from private individuals and organizations.
