A previously reported measles case in Ingham County was removed from the overall case total after additional testing confirmed the individual was not infected with measles virus. This individual developed general respiratory symptoms and tested positive for measles after a known exposure to a confirmed measles case. The individual was previously vaccinated with one dose of measles mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and the positive measles laboratory test was later determined to be due to detection of vaccine strain virus. The individual's respiratory symptoms were not caused by the vaccine and were likely due to an unrelated illness. The vaccine strain does not cause measles or spread from person to person.
2026 Measles Cases in Michigan
2026 Measles Outbreaks in the United States:
As of February 19, 2026, 982 confirmed* measles cases were reported in the United States in 2026. Among these, 976 measles cases were reported by 26 jurisdictions: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York City, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. A total of 6 measles cases were reported among international visitors to the United States.
There have been 7 new outbreaks** reported in 2026, and 89% of confirmed cases (870 of 982) are outbreak-associated (73 from outbreaks starting in 2026 and 797 from outbreaks that started in 2025).
Measles Cases in Michigan 2025
For the full year of 2025, a total of 30 confirmed measles cases was reported in Michigan across 10 counties: Allegan, Grand Traverse, Ingham, Kent, Macomb, Marquette, Montcalm, Muskegon, Oakland, and Osceola. There were 3 outbreaks reported in 2025, and 50% of confirmed cases (15 of 30) were outbreak-associated.

2025 Measles Outbreaks in the United States:
For the full year of 2025, a total of 2,267 confirmed* measles cases was reported in the United States. Among these, 2,242 measles cases were reported by 45 jurisdictions: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, New York State, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. A total of 25 measles cases were reported among international visitors to the United States.
There were 49 outbreaks** reported in 2025, and 89% of confirmed cases (2,020 of 2,267) are outbreak-associated. For comparison, 16 outbreaks were reported during 2024 and 69% of cases (198 of 285) were outbreak-associated.
