Office of Equity and Minority Health (OEMH)
Office of Equity and Minority Health (OEMH)
The Office of Transformation, Engagement, and Community Health (TEaCH) actively addresses non-medical health factors to diminish differences in outcomes among Michigan's heritage-based and ethnic lesser represented populations. TEaCH collaborates on strategies within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to improve health outcomes for these communities and supports the delivery of culturally and linguistically appropriate health services.
Our Mission
Our mission is to work continuously and steadfastly toward ensuring fair health opportunities and eliminating differences in health outcomes among Michigan's represented communities, including American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, Black/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Middle Eastern/North African, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islanders.
Our Vision
The Michigan Office of Transformation, Engagement, and Community Health was established by Executive Order in 1988 to serve as the coordination body for monitoring health differences in outcomes and health systems of advantage and disadvantage experienced by Michigan’s heritage-based ethnic lesser represented populations. Public Act 653, passed by Michigan’s 93rd Legislature and effective January 2007, requires the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to develop structures and policies that address differences in health outcomes between groups.
