The Office of Children's Ombudsman and the Office of the State Employer are autonomous entities that are housed in the Department Technology, Management & Budget. Both the Children's Ombudsman and the director of the Office of State Employer are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
The Civil Service Commission is a bipartisan commission consisting of four non-salaried persons appointed by the governor to serve eight-year, staggered terms.
The Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Monument Fund Commission was created in 2004. The Memorial will commemorate the Michigan law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The State Building Authority (SBA) role is to acquire, construct, furnish, equip, renovate, buildings and equipment for the use of the state, including public universities and community colleges. It is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the governor, with advice and consent of the Senate.
