The Elevator Division is responsible for issuing elevator permits, the examination and licensing of elevator journeypersons and contractors, inspections of elevators, escalators, and dumbwaiters, complaint investigations and reporting of elevator accidents. The division also provides staff support to the Elevator Safety Board, handles elevator code questions and elevator code book sales.
Notice: Michigan Elevator Rules
The Bureau of Construction Codes recently updated R 408.7019 of the Michigan Elevator Rules. The affected rule updates the licenses, permits, certificates, and inspections fees to support the elevator program. This rule was filed with the Secretary of State on May 8, 2008, and became effective 60 days after filing. The new fees will apply to all documents received on or after July 7, 2008.
A copy of the rule is provided below and becomes a part of the Michigan Elevator Rules as of the effective date. The amendment will be included as an insert until such time as the code rules are reprinted.
