• Subdivisions Of Land Rules The Michigan Subdivision Rules have been updated to reflect statutory changes to certificate forms, executive order directives, changes in the Land Division Act and other related statutes. Amendments to these rules become effective June 16, 2008.

| • Beth Aben Appointed As The Bureau's New Deputy Director
The Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) is excited and very proud to announce that effective May 4, 2008, Beth Aben has been appointed as the Bureau's new Deputy Director.
Beth has been a dedicated public servant for over 32 years - spending 20 of those years serving the Bureau's external as well as its internal customers. More recently, over the past 7 years operating as Director of the Office of Administrative Services, she has been committed to providing personnel oversight for BCC's approximately 170 employees. She worked diligently to supervise and assist staff with the promulgation of the administrative rules process as well as the issuance of technical bulletins, bureau publications, press releases, and the development of bureau policies. In this capacity, Beth also served as chairperson for the bureau's Health and Safety Committee, oversaw the production and maintenance of BCC's internal and external websites and has acted as the editor for this Bulletin.
Beth's extensive experience and knowledge of management techniques, labor relations, performance evaluations of local jurisdictions, and the laws and rules regulating the bureau will provide the insight needed to assist BCC in administering its goals and objectives. As the new Deputy Director, she will be responsible for the direction and supervision of the Bureau's several divisions and offices and continue to play an integral part in the development of BCC's budget as well as continuing to be an asset in the analysis of legislation and serving as a member of the Bureau's management team.

| • Michigan Uniform Energy Code The Bureau of Construction Codes is accepting public comments and proposed code changes for the Code Advisory Committee review phase of the 2007 Michigan Uniform Energy Code. The committee has begun the review process with an anticipated completion date in mid-June.

| • Michigan Elevator Rules Notice The Bureau of Construction Codes recently updated R 408.7019 of the Michigan Elevator Rules. The affected rule updates the licenses, permits, certificates, and inspections fees to support the elevator program. This rule was filed with the Secretary of State on May 8, 2008, and will become effective 60 days after filing. The new fees will apply to all documents received on or after July 7, 2008.
A copy of the rule is provided below and becomes a part of the Michigan Elevator Rules as of the effective date. The amendment will be included as an insert until such time as the code rules are reprinted.

| • 2006 Michigan Building Code, 2006 Residential Code And 2006 Michigan Rehabilitation Code The 2006 Michigan Building/Residential Code Rules and 2006 Michigan Rehabilitation Code Rules were filed with the Secretary of State on April 2, 2008, and take effect August 1, 2008.
The building, residential and rehabilitation rules are only those rules affected during the recent Michigan amendment process. As Michigan also adopts by reference rules from the International Building, Residential and Rehabilitation Codes, it is the responsibility of the code-enforcing agency to assure the complete Michigan Building, Residential and Rehabilitation Codes are purchased for use by inspection staff and a copy of each is available for inspection by the public.
