The Division of Victim Services (DVS) provides a voice advocating for and responding to all victims of crime in Michigan. DVS administers nearly 600 contracts that fund over 200 community-based programs, Tribes, and government partners across Michigan that provide vital services to victims, such as counseling, legal and medical advocacy, emergency housing, and crime victims’ rights advocacy. The Division also provides reimbursement for sexual assault medical forensic examinations, direct compensation to victims though Michigan's Crime Victim Compensation program, and supports the statewide victim notification system (MI-VINE).
The work of the Division is done in partnership with four governor-appointed Boards and Commissions, including the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board, the Michigan Crime Victim Services Commission, the Human Trafficking Health Advisory Board, and the Sexual Assault Evidence Kit Tracking Commission.
If you or someone you know is a victim of crime, certain expenses may qualify for Crime Victim Compensation coverage.
This toolkit was developed based on a mid-Michigan hospital system’s experiences using evidence-based strategies to develop an effective human trafficking identification, assessment, and response protocol. It offers guidance for hospitals so they may adapt these tools to implement their own human trafficking protocols customized to their unique resources and communities.
