July 25, 2024: Hire a Veteran Day

WHEREAS, thousands of Michigan service members took an oath to serve our nation honorably and deserve to thrive once they return home; and,
WHEREAS, all too often, service members and their families face significant challenges when transitioning from military to civilian life, including finding meaningful employment; and,
WHEREAS, veterans bring a diverse range of skills, leadership qualities, and problem-solving abilities making them excellent employees; and,
WHEREAS, by hiring veterans, organizations are able to build a more diverse and inclusive team while tapping into a pool of talent with valuable experience, training, and work ethic; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) have programs in place to specifically assist veterans transitioning back into the civilian workplace; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we encourage employers across Michigan to consider becoming a Veteran-Friendly Employer through the MVAA to recruit top veteran talent;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 25, 2024, as Hire a Veteran Day in Michigan.
