July 21-27, 2024: Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

WHEREAS, Michigan’s pretrial, probation, and parole officers are an essential part of our criminal justice system, safeguarding the public from criminal activity while positively impacting the lives of those placed under their supervision; and,

WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are skilled professionals who act as coaches, role models, motivators, and experts in crisis intervention; and,

WHEREAS, these and other skills are put to use on a daily basis to help supervised individuals reach sobriety, obtain employment, strengthen bonds with family and the community and countless other markers of “success”; and,

WHEREAS, pretrial, probation, and parole officers provide support and protection for victims, advocates, and the broader community by ensuring accountability on the part of those they supervise; and,

WHEREAS, the state of Michigan is pleased to thank all of our pretrial, probation, and parole officers and urges all residents to pay special tribute to those who serve so faithfully, often with little thanks or recognition;

 NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 21-27, 2024, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week in Michigan.
