May 14-20, 2023: Mental Health Awareness Week for Children, Youth, and Their Families

WHEREAS, 348,000 Michigan adults and 112,000 Michigan children live with serious mental health conditions; and,

WHEREAS, addressing complex mental health needs of children, youth, and their families is critical to the future of Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, the well-being of our nation depends on how we support and invest in the next generation and their families; and,

WHEREAS, mental health needs must be met with compassion and support; and,

WHEREAS, the voices of children, youth, and their families are critical to inform mental health policies and programs; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is committed to collaborating with children, youth and families, and state partners to address mental health needs in an inclusive and equitable way; and, 

WHEREAS, it is important to provide education and awareness about the impact of mental health challenges on children, youth, and families; and, 

WHEREAS, addressing the mental health challenges faced by Michigan residents is a year-round priority;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 14 – 20, 2023, as Mental Health Awareness Week for Children, Youth, and Their Families in Michigan.
