July 25, 2022: Hire a Veteran Day

WHEREAS, our Soldiers and Airmen serve our state and our nation honorably and deserve to thrive once they return home; and,
WHEREAS, all too often, service members face significant challenges when returning home and seeking employment; and,
WHEREAS, veterans make excellent employees, bringing a strong work ethic and a problem-solving mindset to their team; and,
WHEREAS, to help veterans and their families advance in their careers, I have signed four bipartisan bills that remove barriers preventing service members, veterans, and dependents from entering licensed professions; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) and the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) have programs in place to specifically assist veterans transitioning back into the civilian workplace; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we encourage employers across Michigan to consider becoming a Veteran-Friendly Employer through the MVAA to recruit top veteran talent;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 25, 2022 as Hire a Veteran Day in Michigan.
