November 28, 2021: Albanian Independence Day

WHEREAS, the State of Michigan is pleased to join Albanian-Americans throughout Michigan in recognizing November 28, 2021, as Albanian Independence Day; and,
WHEREAS, on November 28, 1912, Albanian hero, Ismail Qemali, gathered delegates in Vlora, Albania to approve the Declaration of Independence, and Albania restored its status as an independent country, free of foreign invasion; and,
WHEREAS, this year, the State of Michigan is proud to celebrate the 109th independence anniversary of Albania; and,
WHEREAS, still today, Michigan's Albanian-American residents continue to bring their rich culture and tradition to our state, as they excel and flourish in every Michigan community they reside in by being helpful community members, prominent business owners, and intelligent professionals that contribute immensely to the fabric of our communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 28, 2021, as Albanian Independence Day in Michigan.
