July 19 - July 25, 2021: Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week

WHEREAS, Michigan's probation and parole officers are an essential part of our criminal justice system, upholding the law with dignity while recognizing the right of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activity; and,

WHEREAS, probation and parole officers are skilled professionals who must act as counselors, communicators, and experts in crisis intervention, and these officers possess the skills to supervise, refer, and provide services to adult offenders, helping them to achieve success in the community, thereby enhancing public safety; and,

WHEREAS, probation and parole officers provide services, support, and protection for victims, advocates, and restorative justice communities; and,

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, these officers have served on the frontlines to continue to promote prevention, intervention, and advocacy in our state; and,

WHEREAS, the State of Michigan is pleased to thank all of our probation and parole officers and urges all residents to pay special tribute to those who serve so faithfully, often with little thanks or recognition;

 NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 19-25, 2021, as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week in Michigan.
