April 26 - May 1, 2021: Workplace Rights Week

 

WHEREAS, Michigan's workforce benefits from the right to organize, bargain collectively, and advocate for better protections, leveraging knowledge to create equity amidst a recovering Michigan economy; and,
 

WHEREAS, the hardworking Michiganders who keep this state running and are making a difference deserve easy access to state resources for workplace rights; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is important to share and increase accessibility to resources, so working people better understand their rights and feel empowered to fight for their protections; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is our shared responsibility to ensure that all working people in our state can reach their full potential, know their rights, and have a pathway to professional success;

 

WHEREAS, during this week, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, the Bureau of Employment Relations, Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Workers' Disability Compensation Agency, and Wage and Hour Division within the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity are joining together to celebrate, highlight, and support the inaugural Workplace Rights Week to showcase the state's commitment to the labor movement as well as economic prosperity for all;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 26 - May 1, 2021 as Workplace Rights Week in Michigan.
