April 10-16, 2021: Week of the Young Child

WHEREAS, the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (Michigan AEYC), in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is celebrating the Week of the Young Child on April 10-16, 2021; and,
WHEREAS, by calling attention to the need for high-quality early childhood services for all children and families within Michigan, these organizations work to improve the quality and availability of such services; and,
WHEREAS, early childhood professionals who work with or on behalf of young children make a difference throughout our communities, and their efforts deserve gratitude and recognition; and,
WHEREAS, public policies that support early learning are crucial to young children's futures and to the prosperity of our society; and,
WHEREAS, expanding early childhood learning opportunities and improving early literacy achievements are two goals of the state's strategic education plan; and,
WHEREAS, the future of our great state depends on the quality of life we provide to Michigan's young children today;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 10-16, 2021, as Week of the Young Child in Michigan.
