Little Presque Isle
Little Presque Isle
Little Presque Isle – set along the Lake Superior shoreline in the Upper Peninsula and located north and south of Little Presque Point near the mouth of Harlow Creek – is often called "the crown jewel of Lake Superior" for its beautiful sand beaches, rugged shoreline cliffs, heavily timbered forests and unmatched scenic views. It's a popular spot for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife viewing and paddling. There are six walk-in-only, rustic cabins; however, there's no camping available.
Little Presque Isle connects to Little Presque Isle Multi-Use Pathway, North Country Trail and Iron Bell Trail.
Little Presque Isle boasts some of Michigan's oldest exposed rock formations, dating back 2.3 billion years. Sandstone cliffs reaching nearly 60 feet line the island's shoreline, offering a unique glimpse into the state's geological history.
To help protect the resources and keep all visitors safe, please do not:
- Launch watercraft with an inboard or outboard motor, except an electric motor, into Harlow Lake.
- Use a mountain bicycle anywhere other than an abandoned railroad right-of-way, forest road or designated trail.
- Target shoot with a firearm, crossbow or bow.
- Operate a motorized vehicle or snowmobile (except on a forest road).
- Have open fires not in self-contained cooking units, fire rings or grills.
- Use or operate a loudspeaker, motor, motor vehicle, radio, television or any device in a manner that produces excessive noise.

Little Presque Isle Rustic Hike-in Cabins
There are six rustic, one-room cabins tucked away among the birch and pine woodlands at Presque Isle. Each cabin requires a short walk or hike from the trailhead (shortest walk is 100 yards, and longest walk is .75 miles). The terrain is mostly flat, and the trail is marked.
Each one-room cabin sleeps up to eight people and is equipped with two double bunk beds, a wood-heating stove, a table and benches, and a fire circle. There is no running water or electricity, but a hand pump for water is available. A vault toilet is located nearby.
You must provide your own light source, cooking equipment, eating utensils and bedding and/or sleeping bags.
Please note: Firewood is provided for indoor use Sept. 15-June 1. All other times, you may gather and use dead or fallen wood or purchase from a local vendor.
Pet-friendly lodging is available in cabins #4 and #5.
