Dr. Najib Hourani

Najib B. Hourani was raised in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, and now lives in Lansing. He holds a BA in Political Science and an MA in Modern Middle Eastern and North African Studies from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In addition, he received an MA in Political Science with a Central America focus from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He earned his PhD in Middle East Politics from New York University. Today, Dr. Hourani is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Global Urban Studies at Michigan State University. He teaches and writes about urban development and redevelopment in the Arab World and specializes in post-conflict reconstruction of cities. Most recently, Professor Hourani received a Fulbright Fellowship to work with Syrian refugees in Amman, Jordan, to understand how their needs and aspirations might be incorporated into plans to rebuild their neighborhoods and communities in Syria.
