Ron Oja

Administrator, Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti

Ron’s career has been marked by a willingness to try new challenges and new positions.  He started his career by completing a Certified Nurses Aide course at a Midland, Michigan nursing home.  Relocating back to the Upper Peninsula Ron continued as a CNA at a local nursing home.  Working in long term care wasn’t something that Ron had considered before.  It wasn’t until after he started working as a CNA that he realized that this would be a passion for him. Working closely with members has been a constant in his professional life.

Ron did take advantage of opportunities for advancement when they arose.  These opportunities provided him with a knowledge base in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Medical Records and Human Resources.  This base was helpful to becoming a Nursing Home Administrator.

Ron earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northern Michigan University. He and his wife Jennie have raised 5 children and reside in Ishpeming.

One of the greatest lessons that Ron has learned is that the decision-making power should be wielded by the member, or those closest to the member.  When a decision involving a member needs to be made, that member should be involved in the process. A lot of difficulty can be avoided when you follow this process.
