No-Cost Preventive Health Care for Michiganders
Receiving preventive care as recommended by your medical provider and health care experts is an important step in managing your health. Some preventive care services are available to all Michiganders at no-cost.
DEFINING PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE
Preventive health care services generally include routine health care services meant to screen for and help identify health issues before symptoms develop.
Testing and treatment you receive because you are experiencing signs and symptoms of an existing condition, illness, or injury are referred to as diagnostic and not considered preventive care.
REQUIRED COVERAGE
Most major medical health insurance plans must cover no-cost preventive care and wellness services, which means you will not have any out-of-pocket expenses such as copayments, coinsurance, or be required to meet your deductible for qualifying services. This coverage is not required for short-term limited duration policies, limited benefit plans, or grandfathered health plans. To verify if your plan covers no-cost preventive services consult with your insurance company.
Generally, you must see an in-network medical provider to obtain no-cost preventive care services. It is also important to note that no-cost coverage does not include follow-up services for health concerns identified due to receiving preventive care services.
