Session Registration Information     

Click here to register by email. Please give us your name, agency name, phone number, fax number, and identify the session and date you are registering for. Fax the registration form to (248) 348-9963. Or, you may register by telephone (248) 348-9961.  

  • Dress for all sessions is casual.  
  • Unless noted otherwise, sessions are conducted from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM with the exception of Building Blocks of Report Writing. Sessions times for Building Blocks is 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM. 
  • Refreshments are provided, but lunch is on your own.  
  • There is no cost to attend these sessions, but no-shows and cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will be billed $15 per day in administrative costs.

Please note, Recipient Rights Basic Skills Training is not Substance Abuse Rights Training.  Those interested in Substance Abuse Rights Training, please call the Michigan Department of Community Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse & Addiction Services (517) 373-4700. 

Newly hired rights staff must attend both parts of Basic Skills Training within 90 days of hire.  Rights staff that take a new rights position, or return to a previously vacated position, and have not attended Basic Skills Training for 3 years, must retake Basic Skills Training.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The first part of the mandatory training, this course is designed to provide participants with the skills needed to carry out the requirements of the Michigan Mental Health Code.  It is required for all new rights staff and suggested for those who want to update their skills.   3.0 Recipient Rights CEU credits are available for returning rights staff.

  • Introduction to Rights 
  • The Structure of the Michigan Rights System 
  • Rights Under the Michigan Mental Health Code 
  • Content Required for Rights Training 

You must be present all 3 days.

Building Blocks of Report Writing Workbook ImageBUILDING BLOCKS OF REPORT WRITING   

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A review of the basic concepts of investigative report writing.  Content covers the areas of recognizing appropriate citations, development of issue questions, and an effective conclusion.   Enrollment is limited to those who have completed Basic Skills Training at least six months prior to the date of training.  5.5 Recipient Rights CEU credits are available for this training session.  Attendees must bring a copy of the Mental Health Code and Administrative Rules book given to them at Basic Skills Training.

DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE TRAINING (DET)   

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Developing Effective Rights Training is a program for everyone who is involved in training staff on Recipient Rights.  This interactive training provides foundational, experiential and practical information to trainers in every setting; DCH, CMH, LPH/U and Agencies responsible for rights training.  6.0   Recipient Rights CEU credits are available . Topics covered: 

- Principles of training for adult learners
- Using introductory and closing activities effectively
-
 Pre-existing content; avoiding reinventing the wheel
- Audience based rights training
- Practicum

RECIPIENT RIGHTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TRAINING
RECIPIENT RIGHTS APPEALS COMMITTEE TRAINING  
  

Training is required for the members of your Rights and Appeals Committees.  DCH-ORR staff can help provide this training for you on an as needed basis.  You must be willing to host committee members from other agencies in your area.  Contact the Training Division at (248) 348-9961 for details.
