Social Security Retirement Benefits

Agency: Workers' Compensation Agency

Social security benefits, starting with those born in 1938, will now have a sliding scale for old-age eligibility in order to get "full" old-age benefits. The age has been 65.  Click here to review the details on the Social Security Administration's web site.

In Michigan, this will impact old-age reduction (Sec. 357), and coordination (Sec. 354) provisions of the statute. In addition, social security disability benefits will NOT convert to old-age social security benefits until the individual becomes eligible for full benefits based on the attached sliding scale.
