30Treasury to Strictly Enforce Tobacco Tax With Michigan's Cigarette Tax increasing from $1.25 to $2 a pack on Thursday, July 1, 2004, State Treasurer Jay B. Rising is reminding state residents it is illegal to have control of or possess untaxed/unstamped cigarettes (or other tobacco products) purchased on the internet, by telephone, by mail, or by crossing state lines.
24Tobacco Tax Increase to Take Effect July 1st Governor Jennifer Granholm today signed House Bill 5632 (Public Act 164 of 2004) which increases Michigan's tax on cigarettes from $1.25 to $2 per pack, effective July 1, 2004. The increase will generate an additional $97 million to balance the Fiscal Year 2004 budget and an estimated $313 million in revenue for FY 2005.
