Rising is reminding state residents it is illegal to have control of or possess untaxed/unstamped cigarettes (or other tobacco products) purchased on the internet, by telephone, by mail, or by crossing state lines.
 | | 24 | Tobacco Tax Increase to Take Effect July 1st Governor Jennifer Granholm today signed House Bill 5632 (Public Act 164 of 2004) which increases Michigan's tax on cigarettes from $1.25 to $2 per pack, effective July 1, 2004. The increase will generate an additional $97 million to balance the Fiscal Year 2004 budget and an estimated $313 million in revenue for FY 2005.
