E6. I don't use software to prepare my MBT return. Am I required to e-file?

If you are preparing your MBT return yourself and do not use computer software, then you are not required to e-file. If you or your tax preparer are using software to prepare your MBT return and the software supports e-file, we encourage you to e-file those returns.

The e-file mandate for SBT is being continued for software developers supporting MBT, effective January 1, 2010, for the 2009 tax year. Software developers producing MBT preparation software will need to support e-file for all eligible MBT forms that are included in their tax preparation software. Therefore, if you prepare MBT returns using a computer software program you must e-file all eligible tax year 2009 returns that are supported by your software.
