FAQ
  Opt-In County Foreclosure Info
What if a taxpayer wishes to sell off a portion of his property in order to pay his delinquent taxes?

Answer:
This is a tricky situation, but the simple answer is this: the split is not prohibited by the General Property Tax Act as long as the proceeds from the sale are sufficient to cover the delinquent taxes on the entire (unsplit) parcel. The situation that should be avoided is one in which a given parcel is divided before taxes are paid, leaving one or both parcels remaining on the delinquent tax rolls. County treasurers should handle these situations cautiously. A single parcel should not be divided until it has been redeemed in full.
