Why did the State of Michigan file a lien against me when I don't have an outstanding debt with the State of Michigan?
 
Answer:
The Register of Deeds track tax liens by name instead of social security number. In some instances, when two parties in the county have the same or similar names, a lien may inadvertently attach to property owned by a non-liable party. If this happens you may request a Certificate of Non-Attachment from the Collection Division, Special Procedures Unit.
