Effective Dates

The Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Administration Act was effective on July 1, 2004. All of the other acts are effective September 1, 2004. The substantive changes to sales and use taxes and the changes to state law under the Equalization Act previously discussed are effective on September 1, 2004. Some of the changes to state law are only effective if and when the Streamlined Agreement is operational. These changes include "registering under the agreement" through the implementation of an on-line centralized registration system and amnesty for qualified taxpayers who "register under the agreement". It is currently expected that the Streamlined Agreement will become operational on October 1, 2005.
