Kids
A "diet" for weight loss is not recommended for children. In fact, if you have read Why Diets Fail, you know that so-called "diets" aren't really good for anyone.

With a "diet", withholding food may make your child always think about food and cause overeating when food is available. Dieting can also create a fear of going hungry that results in sneaking or hiding food.

Healthy eating means offering kids meals that include a variety of foods like whole grains, lean meats, vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products. Even sweets in moderation, can have a place in a healthy diet.

Working with your child's healthy diet includes knowing if your child is at a healthy weight.

If your child is overweight or underweight, it means knowing how to cope with teasing and acceptance.

For even more information, be sure to visit physical activity for kids and eating better for families, right on this website.

You can also visit the Healthy Kids, Healthy Weight website for more information.

Healthy Weight?
Is your child at a healthy weight?
Being Teased
Is your child being teased or bullied because of his or her size? All children deserve safe and supportive environments and to be treated fairly and with respect.
Family Acceptance
A child who is overweight or underweight needs support, acceptance and encouragement from the family.
