Dealer Manual

The Bureau of Driver and Vehicle Programs has prepared this Dealer Manual to provide dealers with information about the requirements of the Michigan Vehicle Code, and to provide instructions in keeping and maintaining good records.

All Michigan vehicle dealers should be familiar with the laws and regulations which govern their dealership.  Changes in law or policy are reflected in updates to the Dealer Manual.  Changes that significantly impact your business are published in Dealer Bulletins and Dealer Newsletters, which are also available online.  Please check the Department of State Web site frequently at www.michigan.gov/sos to ensure your dealer resources are up-to-date.

If you wish to download or view individual chapters or other parts of the manual, see Dealer Manual by Chapter.  There you will find a chart listing the latest revision dates.  Any chapters or other parts of the manual having dates that do not match the dates shown should be removed and replaced with the revised chapters or other parts of the manual.

Important Note:

If there is a conflict between the language of this manual and the language of Michigan law, the law will prevail.  Please refer to specific statute or consult an attorney if any conflict is perceived or encountered.  Because of space limitations, the Dealer Manual only highlights the basic requirements for dealers and does not attempt to identify or explain every requirement of applicable law, rule or policy.
