SEPTEMBER 13, 2004

The Secretary of State branch office at 20210 W. 7 Mile in Detroit will temporarily close for remodeling beginning Monday, Oct. 4.

It will reopen Monday, Oct. 11 as one of Michigan's 22 new Secretary of State PLUS offices.

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land created PLUS offices to offer customers greater convenience and enhanced service options. The new Northwest Detroit PLUS Office will offer expanded hours on Wednesdays and the availability of an on-site customer-service specialist. In the future, additional benefits will include payment by credit card, a self-service option for vehicle registration renewal and the availability to obtain driving records on site rather than by mail or travel to Lansing.

During the closure, customers needing service can visit nearby offices at:

  • Detroit Livernois
    18409 Livernois
  • Detroit Greenfield
    13555 Greenfield
  • Livonia 7 Mile
    29596-A W. 7 Mile

The Secretary of State's Office mails notices to motorists 45 days before their driver's licenses or license plates expire so that they have ample time to renew. Land reminds residents that they can "skip the trip" to a branch office by renewing vehicle and watercraft registrations online.

The department Web site is at www.Michigan.gov/sos.
