November 30, 2011 (Special Edition for County Clerks)

The Bureau of Elections (BOE) sent every city and township in the state the attached packet of information.  The packets were sent by both U.S. Mail and electronically in a News You Can Use, Issue #52, dated November 30, 2011 to initiate the redistricting project of updating the Qualified Voter File (QVF) street index to reflect new legislative, county commissioner, precinct and other boundaries for every jurisdiction in our state.

BOE will update the following districts as needed:

1. U. S. Congressional Districts

2. State House of Representative Districts

3. State Senate Districts

4. County Commissioner Districts

5. Ward (where applicable) and Precincts

    6. Village Precincts (where applicable)

As part of this large undertaking, BOE requests county clerk assistance with encouraging the city and township clerks in your counties to complete the packet and mail it to BOE as soon as possible but no later than the January 5, 2012 deadline.  BOE has a very short window of time to update all necessary districts in the QVF street index.  To meet this obligation it is critical that BOE obtain the packets from your local jurisdictions in a timely manner.  Without the information, BOE cannot make changes to the QVF street index in a timely manner to ensure the successful administration of the August 2012 Primary.  Clerks without QVF access will require your assistance to print out the street index for their jurisdiction.  Since BOE is updating all jurisdictions throughout the state, we will make changes to the QVF street index in the order in which we receive jurisdictional information.

Please see the Old/ New Precinct, District and Polling Location Change Form and the Street Index Changes Document  or refer to our website at www.michigan.gov/redistricting for further details about the process.  If you have further questions, please contact us at  BOEredistricting@michigan.gov.  Thank you in advance for your assistance in this important and necessary project.
