How do I renew a disability parking placard or disability license plate?

Answer:

Expired temporary disability placards cannot be renewed. A new application is required if the medical condition has not improved.

Permanent disability placards and disability license plates may be renewed up to 45 days before the expiration date. Renewals may be processed at any Secretary of State branch office. Disability placards may also be renewed by calling (517) 322-6274, by faxing a request to (517) 322-1063 or by mailing a request to:

Michigan Department of State
Distributed Services Unit
PO Box 30764
Lansing MI 48909-8264

Or, you may request a renewal of your permanent disability placard by sending an email request to soswebmaster@michigan.gov. Please make sure to include your expiring permit number and your name, address and a daytime phone number with your request.

Renewing a disability plate may also be done through the mail. Or, if your registration has a PIN , you may also renew your license plate by telephone by calling (517) 334-9444 or on the Internet by going to Online Renewal Form .
