Answer:
|
|
Michigan's Abandoned Vehicle law (Public Acts 493, 494 and 495 of 2004 and
Public Act 593 of 2008) streamlines procedures for removing and processing
abandoned vehicles. Important requirements include:
-
The Secretary of State mails
the Notice of Abandoned Vehicle forms (TR-52E) formerly sent by law
enforcement agencies to the vehicle owner and any secured party on record.
-
The Secretary of State
maintains the
Michigan Lost & Found Web site, which
lists all vehicles that are reported as abandoned by Michigan law enforcement
agencies.
-
Vehicles that are considered
abandoned are no longer required to be tagged, and may be
towed sooner in some cases.
-
Abandoning a vehicle carries
increased
penalties.
Vehicle owners have
record keeping requirements for title
transfers (selling, trading, giving away or donating a vehicle).
