The law (257.252g) regarding when public sales are required has not changed. All abandoned vehicles must be offered at public sale except those that are redeemed or deemed to be abandoned scrap.

If it is not sold at the public sale, the abandoned vehicle may be transferred to the towing agency or custodian. You may also attempt to sell the vehicle at another public sale or pay the towing and storage fees and apply for the title.
