Heart Image Did you know that people of all ages can become organ and tissue donors? Age is not a barrier to donation!
Heart Image Did you know that the first successful kidney transplant took place in 1954 in Boston? The kidney of one identical twin, Ronald Herrick, was transplanted into his brother, Richard, who was dying of kidney failure. Because they were identical twins, the kidney did not appear foreign to Richard's body, and it was not rejected. Richard enjoyed good health for eight more years, married and fathered two children before developing further kidney problems unrelated to his surgery.
