Board of State Canvassers meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 18

YOU ARE HEREBY NOTIFIED THAT THE BOARD OF STATE CANVASSERS WILL MEET ON TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2004 AT 9:45 A.M. IN ROOM 426 OF THE STATE CAPITOL, LANSING, MICHIGAN.

Included on the Agenda will be:

  • Review of procedures employed to canvass candidate nominating petitions, new political party petitions and initiative and referendum petitions.
  • Establishment of deadline for challenging signatures appearing on initiative petition filed on April 15, 2004 by Standing Together To Oppose Partial-birth-abortion (STTOP).
  • Staff report on issuance of instructions for distinguishing between "stray marks" and valid votes cast on optical scan ballots. (MCL 168.799a(3) as amended under PA 92 of 2004 requires the Secretary of State to issue such instructions "subject to the approval of the Board of State Canvassers.")
  • Such other and further business as may be properly presented to the Board.
